The England manager Expresses Disappointment Over Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
The England head coach voiced his regret that the Three Lions team did not enjoy greater support from the home fans during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was pleased to see his team showcase their strong performance, with finishes from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the match. Yet, he was displeased with the mood at the national stadium.
“With one and a half sessions to prepare against a well-trained team and we did very well,” the coach stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth ones. The stadium was silent. We didn’t get support back from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you provide in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the squad deserved more support today.”
“I maintain this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a little more backing in phases where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but it is what it is and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Away from risking a dispute among fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by leaving out Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the choice was justified by Morgan Rogers excelling in the attacking midfield role and scoring his maiden goal for his country.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his place.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who host Belgium in a important qualifying match on next week, learn from their awful performance in the opening period.
“This is why I wanted this game,” Bellamy stated. “I need to see our current level. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after hitting a post and will be a doubt when England face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
